The no fly zone has been tested many times before by Russia. In my opinion, Turkey has been tolerant and lenient. Whether anyone wants to admit it or not, it is a test. A game. Yes real lives are involved. My opinion is Russia pushed the envelope too far. That airspace can be defended. And it is being argued. To what avail? To let it be traversed is akin to letting the bully take your lunch money. The US is pushing the envelope with China. The US has a good reason to do so. But when a jet gets shot down, what will it lead to? These are war games. Nobody wants to acknowledge that, but it is happening and it is a test of wills and metal. Give boys a lot of money and weapons, see what hemorrhages they can cause.

So ... Russia and Nato at war? Should we be worried?
by Simon init seems unbelievable but turkey (a nato member state) shooting down a russian jet fighter on their syrian border seems to be "meh" news and no one is too bothered about it too much.. the world seems a bit upside down right now.
i don't think a lot of countries really know who the hell they are fighting and who is and isn't on their side in it all and really what is going on.. smaller incidents than this have led to major conflicts in the past but hopefully calm heads will prevail.
china shot down a us spy plane years ago and the world survived and forgot about it so things will move on i'm sure.. i'm guessing the price turkey pays for their gas supply from russia will be going up soon though.. man, that republican primary is sucking all the news attention from the room.

Ex-Jehovah's Witness elder jailed for sex assaults on schoolgirl
by LevelThePlayingField inthis is becoming more common.
this is from the last part of the article: .
"this was about sexual gratification and you are a hypocrite because you became an elder and you investigated a sexual matter even with this in your sexual background.".

An interesting discussion to say the least. I know many of us on this board have personal experience with being victims of child sexual abuse and dealing with secular authorities and the courts. It many times is an exercise in extreme frustration and disappointment. Today prosecutors believe they only receive about 10% of the actual amount of possible disclosures of child sexual abuse, and of that 10%, less than 1% of those disclosures come from minors under the age of 18. After investigation, very few cases of allegation can be successfully tried in court. Most often, the actual prosecution is the one that decides they can not move forward with litigation. Even the aggressive stance of law enforcement in regard to pursuing abusers that is unparalleled in history is hampered by due process. The fact that we are hearing of these prosecutions and convictions dealing with abuse acts that happened decades in the past is remarkable. But for each successful prosecution we hear of, there are hundreds that go unaddressed or resolved. I believe that all statutes of limitation should be lifted and all accusation should be investigated and presented to court. Of course, many victims will choose settlement rather than face trial and the possibility of losing in court in front of a jury. So be it. It is very understandable. The rhetoric about "what if they are lying" is also understandable. That is why it becomes increasingly more difficult to prosecute when huge lapses of time have transpired. But let the victim have their say. Let the accused have their moment to respond. When it becomes a "he said, she said" affair, let the disclosures and depositions speak for themselves even if they are never given the opportunity to be heard by a jury. Its a process that can lead to healing for victims and a process that can lead to deserved torment for abusers. -

Decrease of numbers in Jehovah's Witnesses via Deaths, DFings, or Turning Inactive
by flipper inso i'm sure a good number of us saw the chart that i believe the poster splash put on another thread of figures since 1990 regarding how many baptized and % of increase each year .
i started analyzing it ( and i know some referred to it briefly on the other thread ) and guessing of reasons the % of increase didn't match the number of newly baptized.
and of course common sense tells us that either jw's leave the cult each year through death, fading into inactivity, or getting dfed.

I was under the impression that the "peak publisher" total was taken from any given month showing the highest publishers reporting. It would explain special campaign months where irregular publishers and even some inactive publishers are encouraged to engage in the campaign and report time for the month. That month would generate thousands more publishers in the ministry and would be used as the "peak publisher" mark reported in the yearbook. -

16 Jehovah's Witnesses on trial in Russia
by LisaRose ini apologize if this has already been posted, the search function doesn't work on my kindle tablet.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/europe/sixteen-jehovahs-witnesses-may-be-russias-most-pacifist-extremists/2015/11/20/6e046610-8898-11e5-bd91-d385b244482f_story.html.
as much as i hate this religion, i don't see that it does any good for any religion to be banned.

""propagating the exclusivity and supremacy” of their own religion"
Many even on this forum will not agree with the stance Russia has taken because it encroaches on the freedoms of religion that Western democracy holds out. But this quote stands out to me. How can anyone really argue against it. Specifically if you have inside knowledge after escaping the cult? At the same time, many religions propagate their exclusivity. That Russia categorizes Watchtower with ISIS is also curious. It will be interesting to watch how this all plays out.

The fraud that is the WT member numbers
by Crazyguy inok i'm just thinking out load here so to speak.
but let say in the year 2000 the wt says they have 1 million publishers and at the end of the year they say they had 300,000 people get baptized so in the beginning of the year 2001 they show 1,300,000 publishers.
then in this new year they state another 300,000 get baptized but with 50,000 deaths and 50,000 disfellowshippings they stated at the end of year 2001 a total of 1,500,000 total members.

We talked about this a bit yesterday. Using Watchtower numbers the following chart could be built. Of course Watchtower would never present their numbers this way:

Watchtower would never display this info in a chart. Rather they spin "peak publishers" to make it look like amazing growth. Inactive and faders would not be counted in the "peak publisher" total. 6 months of non reporting of field service time would take you out of that column and put you into the exit column.

Trump is not getting in, so the mental masturbation of building a cabinet for him is too trialsome. But Paul Reubens should be in there somewhere. -

I actually like Sanders and will probably vote for him. But I am not deluding myself. Trump has answered no questions. Satisfactorily to me anyway. He is like a reality TV show gone bad. Carson puts me to sleep. Fiorina catches my attention. Bush seems the likely shoo in despite all nay sayers. The other GOP candidates? Maybe Rubio sneaks in, but everyone else needs to drop out.
